Marrs Sweet Orange Tree (Citrus × sinensis 'Marrs')

Does not ship to Florida

The Marrs Sweet Orange is a flavorful and low-acid orange variety that’s perfect for fresh eating and juicing. Known for its rich, sweet flavor and nearly seedless fruit, this early-season orange is a favorite among home gardeners who want great taste straight from the tree.

Key Features:

  • Foliage: Glossy, dark green evergreen leaves on a full, rounded canopy. Attractive in landscapes and containers alike.

  • Fruit: Medium-sized oranges with smooth, bright orange skin and juicy, sweet flesh. Very few seeds and low acidity make them excellent for fresh eating or juicing.

  • Blooms: Fragrant white blossoms appear in spring, attracting pollinators and adding classic citrus fragrance to your garden.

  • Size: Grows 10–15 feet tall and wide in the ground. Easily pruned to stay smaller in pots or compact spaces.

Growing Conditions:

  • USDA Zones: 9–11

    • Best suited for warm, frost-free areas like California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida.

  • Sunlight: Requires full sun (6–8+ hours daily) for best fruit development and sweetness.

  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil.

Cold Climate Growing Tips:

You can still enjoy Marrs Sweet Oranges in cooler climates with the right approach:

  • Container Growing: Ideal for large pots with good drainage. Use citrus-specific potting mix.

  • Overwintering: Bring indoors or into a greenhouse before temperatures fall below 32°F (0°C). Place in a bright, sunny spot or use supplemental lighting.

  • Portable Citrus: Use a wheeled plant stand to move it easily between indoors and out as seasons change.

Uses & Benefits:

  • Flavor Profile: Exceptionally sweet and juicy with low acidity—perfect for those who prefer milder citrus.

  • Culinary Use: Great for juicing, fresh snacking, salads, desserts, and homemade orange sauces or preserves.

  • Early Ripening: One of the first sweet oranges to ripen in the season, usually ready by November to January in warm climates.

  • Beautiful & Functional: Adds ornamental value with glossy foliage, fragrant blossoms, and brightly colored fruit.
