Calamondin Tree (Citrus × microcarpa)

Compact, Hardy & Perfectly Tart

Does not ship to Florida

The Calamondin, also known as Calamansi or Philippine lime, is a small, cold-hardy citrus that produces abundant, fragrant blossoms and small, tangy fruits year-round. A hybrid between a mandarin orange and a kumquat, it’s beloved in Southeast Asian cuisine and makes an excellent ornamental and edible tree for patios, gardens, or indoor containers.

With its compact size, prolific fruiting, and fragrant white flowers, Calamondin is a favorite among both new and experienced citrus growers.

Growing Information:

  • USDA Zones: 8b–11

    • Hardy outdoors in warmer zones; grow in containers and move indoors in winter in cooler climates

  • Cold Hardiness: Tolerates down to 20–25°F (-6 to -4°C)

  • Sun Requirements: Full sun (at least 6 hours/day)

  • Mature Height: 6–10 ft outdoors, 3–5 ft in containers

  • Soil Needs: Well-drained, slightly acidic soil

Fruit & Harvest:

  • Fruit Description: Small (1–2 inches), round, deep orange fruit with a thin peel and juicy, sour pulp. The skin is edible and sweet-tart.

  • Flavor: A bright mix of lemon, lime, and orange — perfect for marinades, drinks, marmalades, or traditional Filipino dishes.

  • Seed Content: Few to moderate seeds

  • Pollination: Self-pollinating — only one tree needed

  • Bloom Time: Spring through summer (with some off-season blooms)

  • Harvest Season: Late fall through spring, though can fruit year-round in warm conditions

Homeowner Tips:

  • Perfect for containers, patios, and indoor citrus growing

  • Water deeply but allow soil to partially dry between waterings

  • Feed monthly with a balanced citrus fertilizer during active growth (spring through fall)

  • Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage new growth

Bright, bold, and bursting with flavor, the Calamondin Tree is a citrus lover’s dream—compact, cold-tolerant, and full of culinary and ornamental charm.
